I do not know what any symbol means

That is the game. Nothing is translated for you and no answer key is unlocked later. You learn by sending an expression and reading what comes back — the reply leaves an observation behind, and observations accumulate.

Where do I write my guesses down

Tap Lexicon at the top of the screen. Each symbol has four numbered fields, and you can keep four competing readings at once. You do not have to fill them in order, and you can rewrite them at any time — including after a negotiation has ended.

How do I win, and how do I lose

Reach 100 credit to close the negotiation successfully. It fails if credit reaches 0, or if rapport drops below 20. There is no round limit, so there is no penalty for being careful.

Nothing happens when I press Send

Send only lights up once at least one symbol is in the expression sequence. Tap a symbol to add it (two is the maximum), or tap a filled position to take it back out.

The next civilisation does not understand me

That is expected. All three civilisations use the same ten symbols and read them differently, so a phrase that worked earlier can land as uncertain or worse. Your lexicon starts empty each time for that reason.

I want to start over

Tap Restart at the top of the screen and confirm. This clears the current negotiation, including the observations and guesses recorded in it.

Does it need an internet connection

No. The app never goes online, and behaves identically in airplane mode.
